Proposed Landscape Ordinance

Keep Brownwood Beautiful has been working for two years to create an ordinance pertaining to landscape requirements for commercial development.

PURPOSE

The purpose of this ordinance is to promote a positive image for the City: to improve the physical appearance and environmental quality of the community; to protect property values; abate noise, glare, dust and heat; to help air purification, oxygen regeneration, ground-water recharge, storm water runoff retardation and erosion control.

 SUMMARY

This ordinance, based on others in Texas and nationwide, applies only to new commercial and large apartment construction, including large additions to existing buildings.  It sets minimum landscaping requirements for parking areas, interior parts of the lot, and unpaved areas of public right-of-way.  It gives simple guidelines for the placement of landscaping, irrigation, plant selection, maintenance, existing tree preservation, and documentation of plans.
